Christian is a bright and hardworking 12-year-old boy in the third grade at Maranatha School. He lives in the village of Galette-Chambon with his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. His parents are farmers who rely on their garden to feed and support the family—and they count on all of their children, including Christian, to help make that possible.
Every morning before school, Christian gets up early to work alongside his father in the garden so his parents can be ready to sell their produce at the market. He enjoys playing with his friends and even sneaking in a quick afternoon nap when he can. His favorite subject is mathematics, and he dreams of becoming a social studies teacher one day.
Life in the village is difficult. Many vendors are robbed on their way to market, and the cost of safe transportation is more than most can afford. Christian’s parents are doing everything they can, but they simply cannot afford the tuition to keep him in school. Christian needs a sponsor if he is going to continue his education.
