OLENS is an enthusiastic and determined 11-year-old student currently in the third grade at Maranatha Elementary School. He lives in the village of Galette Chambon with his parents, two sisters, and one brother. Olens comes from a hardworking family who owns a small bakery in the village.

In the past, his parents were able to support their family through their bakery business. However, recent economic challenges have made it increasingly difficult to continue. The cost of supplies has risen significantly, and traveling to town to purchase ingredients now involves paying high road taxes both ways. At the same time, many people in the community can no longer afford to buy bread, as it has become a luxury item. Although Olens’s parents have lowered their prices to try to sell more, their profits remain very small, making it hard to cover basic needs, including school tuition.

Despite these hardships, Olens is deeply committed to his education. Outside of school, he spends much of his time studying his lessons, determined to succeed. His favorite subject is French, and he greatly admires his teacher, who graduated from BGM High School and returned to teach at the elementary level. Inspired by this example, Olens dreams of one day completing his education through Philo—the final 13th grade in Haiti—and becoming a teacher himself at BGM Primary School or Maranatha.

Sponsorship for Olens would provide him with the opportunity to remain in school and continue pursuing his goals. With his strong work ethic and passion for learning, Olens has the potential to achieve his dream and give back to his community as a teacher, just like those who have inspired him.
