CARLENS is a determined 13-year-old boy currently in the third grade at Maranatha Elementary School. He lives in Galette Chambon with his parents and four brothers. As the oldest child, Carlens carries a strong sense of responsibility and hope for his future.

His parents are sharecroppers who work on a large farm, earning a living by keeping a portion of the crops they harvest to either sell or feed their family. This is very hard work, and the income they receive is limited. With four boys to care for and educate, it has become extremely difficult for them to afford school fees for each child.

Like many children in Haiti, Carlens has faced delays in his education because his family could only afford to send one child to school at a time. During the years he was unable to attend, Carlens showed remarkable initiative by borrowing books from friends and teaching himself so he would not fall too far behind. When he was finally given the opportunity to enroll this past year, he took a placement test and was able to enter directly into the third grade.

Carlens is highly motivated and works very hard in his studies, even outside of school. He hopes to catch up and possibly advance more quickly so he can reach his goals. His favorite subject is Creole, and he dreams of becoming a teacher one day, inspired by others in his community who have gone on to teach after completing their education.

Sponsorship would give Carlens the opportunity to continue his education consistently and help him reach his full potential, opening the door for him to achieve his dream and make a difference in his community.
