Midala is a timid, hard working seventeen year old who lives with her mother, sister, and six brothers in the village of Plasman near Galette Chambon. Her mother is a vendor in the village and her father died two years ago. Her father was a farmer and between him and her mother, they barely made enough money to feed their large family much less send them all to school. She and her brother have been taking a turn going to school for the last three years while other siblings sat out.  Back when she was having to sit out of school, she kept studying her friends’ old books so that she could keep learning while waiting for her turn. She is excited that she and her brother both have passed the sixth grade and are ready to move to high school, but she is afraid that now that she has finally finished 6th grade, she will not be able to continue because her mother will choose to send her brother and not her. She thinks that maybe she won’t be able to afford to send both to the high school. She wants so badly to continue on with school without having to worry about whether or not her mother can afford to send her. She prays every day that God will make a way….
