Birthday: December 27, 2017 Sponsorship #: 2024-00-068S

Rolanda is a tenderhearted little 7 year old who is very petite for her age. She lives in the village of Galette Chambon with her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Her parents are farmers in the village and they tend a large field each season. They grow corn, millet, and sugar cane. It is very hard to support a family of seven these days in the village. It is very hot and it is not a place for young children. It is better for them to be in school where they are learning and safe from the dangers of the bandits that roam throughout the village seeking to rob adults who are trying to earn a living for their families. Rolanda’s mother says that she prays every day that God will make a way to change their country back to a place that is safe for families to live, but until then, she also prays that God will move someone to sponsor her baby girl so she can go to school. She is already several years behind in her education because her parents just couldn’t afford to send her. She learned to write her alphabet and her name as well as read a little by studying the lessons of friends who live near her. This is why she is able to start in first grade instead of kindergarten. She is hoping that after one year, she can move up and be in the right grade. However, she must have a sponsor first. Rolanda enjoys playing with friends in the village. When she goes to school, she is most excited about learning French. When she grows up, she wants to become a nurse.
