SOPHIA is a bright and determined 15-year-old girl who is preparing to begin fourth grade this fall at Maranatha School. Although she is older than many students in her grade, Sophia’s delayed education is the result of heartbreaking circumstances rather than a lack of ability or desire to learn.

After the death of her parents, Sophia and her siblings faced tremendous hardship. With no one able to pay school tuition, Sophia was forced to leave school for several years. She now lives with her aunt, who lovingly took in Sophia, her two sisters, and two brothers after their parents passed away.

Sophia’s aunt is doing everything she can to care for the children, despite already supporting her own family. She earns a modest income as a vendor in the local market, where she sells vegetables she grows herself. Each day, she carries only a small basket of produce to market, so her earnings are very limited. While her income is usually enough to purchase ingredients for the family’s meals the following day, it is not enough to cover school tuition for Sophia and her siblings.

Despite being out of school for several years, Sophia has never given up on education. She loves to study and has remained committed to learning on her own. Friends who are enrolled in school often lend her their textbooks, and Sophia studies from those books independently. Through her discipline and determination, she has worked hard to keep up academically and prepare herself to return to school.

Sophia’s favorite subject is mathematics, and she dreams of becoming a cosmetologist when she grows up. She has already begun pursuing that dream by attending BGM Professional School, where her aunt made sacrifices to pay her tuition so she could begin vocational training.

Sophia’s story is one of resilience, perseverance, and hope. Sponsorship would give her the opportunity to return to school, continue her education, and build a brighter future. With support, Sophia can pursue both her academic studies and her vocational goals, equipping her to one day support herself and help others.
