Nickensley is a spunky and comical seven year old who lives in the area of Gros Balanse in Galette Chambon. He lives with his parents, five sisters, and six brothers. When we asked him what work his parents do, he said, “bòkò” which means A LOT. They farm; they sell things at market; they clean houses; they work with construction when they can find work – anything they can find to make a little money, they do it. Two of his big brothers used to go to the BGM Schools, but they had to quit to find work to help support the family. The other three brothers are still in school. Three of his sisters are also in school, but the oldest three quit school to work as well. Nickensley’s parents really want him to try to go to school with his siblings that are still there. If he is able to start school in the Fall, he will start in the first grade. Nickensley enjoys playing with friends, going to church, and working. He enjoys numbers, so he thinks he will really like mathematics. When he grows up, he wants to be a doctor.
