Mirlinda is a determined 19-year-old student who hopes to return to BGM High School as a 12th grader. She lives in Galette Chambon with her parents and her four sisters. Last year, Mirlinda became seriously ill and missed so much school that she was unable to complete the year. At the same time, her parents were no longer able to afford her tuition, forcing her to put her education on hold. Now that she has regained her health, she is eager to return to school and complete her final year.
If Mirlinda receives a sponsorship, she will become the first person in her family to graduate from high school with a Philo certificate, an achievement that would open the door to college or qualify her to teach preschool or elementary school. Even while she was recovering from her illness, Mirlinda continued studying on her own so she would not fall too far behind. She loves learning, especially social science, because she enjoys studying the history, culture, and government of Haiti. Her dream is to become a nurse so she can care for others and give back to her community. A sponsorship would not only help Mirlinda achieve her dream of graduating but would also create new opportunities for her family for generations to come.
