Arismene is a happy and enthusiastic five-year-old girl who recently graduated from the BGM Preschool K-3 program. This fall, she is excited to begin first grade. She lives in the village of Galette Chambon with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
Although Arismene is eager to continue her education, her parents worry they may not be able to afford another school tuition. Several of her siblings are already in school, and providing an education for each of their children has become increasingly difficult. Her parents work as sharecroppers in a large community garden, where they help grow and harvest crops in exchange for a portion of the produce. Some of the harvest feeds their family, while the rest is sold at the local market. Unfortunately, traveling to market has become both dangerous and expensive because of illegal road taxes and ongoing security concerns. Sponsorship would allow Arismene to continue her education, receive a nutritious hot meal each school day, and give her parents greater opportunity to work and provide for their family.
When she is not in school, Arismene loves playing with her friends and siblings. She is especially proud to help care for her twin baby sisters, making her feel like a big girl. At school, she enjoys learning to read and write and is looking forward to first grade, where she will begin studying subjects like mathematics, science, and social studies. One day, Arismene hopes to become a kindergarten teacher because she loves her own teachers and wants to help young children learn and grow just as they have inspired her.
