Westania is a happy four-year-old who is excited to begin the K-1 program at BGM Preschool in Haiti. She lives in the village of Galette Chambon with her parents, who earn a living as vendors in the local market. They purchase household goods from a wholesale distributor and resell them to support their family. In recent years, however, illegal road taxes and the growing dangers of traveling to both the distributor and the market have greatly reduced their income and made their work much more difficult.
Since Westania was a baby, her parents often had to take her with them to the market because they could not leave her home alone. Now that she is old enough to start school, they are praying she will receive a sponsorship so she can begin her education while they continue working to provide for their family.
Westania loves playing with her friends and the neighbor’s puppy. She is especially excited about learning to read and write and can’t wait to learn how to write her own name. One day, she hopes to become a kindergarten teacher so she can help young children discover the joy of learning. A sponsorship would give Westania the opportunity to begin building a brighter future while bringing hope and encouragement to her hardworking family.
