WOOD-DECHENA is a bright 7-year-old girl in the first grade at Maranatha School. She lives in the village of Galette Chambon with her parents, her three brothers, and her sister. She is already one year behind in school and is eager to continue her education without falling further behind.
Her parents work hard as market vendors. They purchase household goods from a local depot and resell them at the market, earning only a small profit. Recently, however, their work has become much more difficult. The cost of goods has increased significantly, and they are now required to pay high illegal road taxes just to travel to the depot. These challenges have greatly reduced their income, making it very hard for them to afford school fees for Wood-Dechena.
Despite these difficulties, Wood-Dechena remains joyful and determined. She enjoys learning, especially her Creole lessons, and loves spending time playing with her friends. She is also very involved in her church and enjoys attending with her family.
Wood-Dechena dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher one day so she can help young children learn and grow. A sponsor would give her the opportunity to stay in school, continue building her future, and pursue her dream without interruption.
