JESSICA is a bright and determined 14-year-old girl living in the village of Galette-Chambon with her parents, two sisters, and younger brother. Born in April 2010, she is currently in the third grade at our BGM primary school. Although she is a bit behind in school for her age, this is only because she was not able to begin her education until she was eight years old. Her parents, who once made a modest living as vendors in the village, saved for years to afford her school tuition, but now it is difficult to make enough money to even eat, much less pay school tuition. They do not want to tell Jessica she can no longer attend school, so they desperately ask for sponsorship.

Jessica started kindergarten at age eight, eager to learn despite her late start. Since then, however, civil unrest in the country has made it increasingly difficult for her parents to earn enough to support their children’s education. While two of her sisters have found sponsorship and her brother is still too young to attend school, Jessica’s future remains uncertain without support.

Despite the challenges she faces, Jessica remains cheerful and helpful. She loves working around the house and assisting her parents. Singing brings her joy, and she enjoys playing with friends and doing her school lessons—especially math, which is her favorite subject.

Jessica dreams of attending cosmetology school at our BGM professional school one day. She hopes to become skilled in hairstyling and nail care so she can earn a living helping the women in her village look and feel their best. She believes this path will not only support her family but also bring her happiness doing something she loves.
