Chamaelle is a precious eight year old from the village of Galette Chambon. She lives with her mother and brother. Her mother is a vendor whose husband died when the village was attacked by the gang. She has tried to continue selling things to support her family and keep her child in school, but it is hard to get to town to replenish supplies when she has no transportation and has to pay someone to take her. The roads are dangerous and markets are suffering. If her child is to continue in school next year, she will have to have a sponsor. Chamaelle enjoys mathematics in school and her favorite thing to do is play with her friends. When she grows up, she wants to become a nurse.
