Soufa is a happy little four year old who lives in the village of Plachal in Galette Chambon with his parents and sister. His parents try to make a little money in sharecropping and then selling some of the produce they are allowed to keep in the local market. They are able to make enough to provide for some of their family needs but it is not enough. They often depend on the generosity of others to be able to make ends meet. They are hoping that if their son Soufa is able to go to school, he will not only get a good meal every day, but he will start learning and have a brighter future with a good education. Soupha enjoys playing with friends and going to church. His favorite thing to do as far as school goes is learn to count! When he grows up, he thinks he might want to be a doctor!
