Valdo is a precious three year old from the village of Galette Chambon. He lives with hi smother, two sisters, and three brothers. His mother does not remember the date of when he was born because she gave birth to him in the same way she gave birth to his siblings – on the floor of a dirt hut. She had no help except for the help of her oldest child who followed her mother’s instructions to catch the baby and then tie off the cord. Then mama cut the cord herself and completed the delivery on her own. This is not unusual in a poor village with no healthcare. Even if there were healthcare available, his mother would not be able to afford it because she is a vendor that makes barely enough money to feed her children a couple of times a week. They live in a hut that was abandoned by a family when the gang struck the village. It is a hard life, but mama does her best to take care of her children. She would be so grateful if someone would sponsor her baby boy, Valdo, so that she can go to market without putting his life in danger knowing that he is safely behind the walls of the school, learning to read and write, learning about Jesus, and eating a hot meal every day. Valdo enjoys playing with toy cars he found in the bushes and playing with his siblings. He is excited to learn to write his name when he goes to school and when he grows up, he wants to become a mechanic.
