Miraline is an active little 3 year old from the village of Galette Chambon who lives with her mother, three sisters, and three brothers. Her mother is a share cropper on a local farm near the base of the mountain. Share croppers work very hard but do not make much money. Now that Miraline is old enough to go to school, her mother needs for her to find a sponsor so she can go to school instead of paying someone to keep Miraline while she works in the garden. Miraline loves to play with her siblings and friends and she enjoys singing at church. She is most excited about learning to write when she goes to school. When she grows up she wants to become a nurse.
