Vanessa’s parents are vendors in the village marketplace. Her father weaves beautiful baskets from reeds he gathers in the fields, while they also sell sandals, shoes, and household goods purchased from a distributor in a nearby city. In recent years, the cost of traveling to buy supplies has risen sharply, and the prices of the goods they sell have increased as well. At the same time, many families in their community can no longer afford to purchase these items because of the struggling economy. These challenges have made it increasingly difficult for Vanessa’s parents to provide for their family and pay school tuition for both of their children.
Vanessa’s favorite part of kindergarten was learning to write. After first learning her alphabet, she was thrilled to begin putting letters together to form words. She is eager to keep developing her reading and writing skills as she enters primary school. Vanessa dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher because she is grateful for the strong foundation her own teacher gave her and hopes to help other young children begin their educational journey with the same encouragement and care.
