Nedjika is a very bright thirteen year old from the area of Gwo Balanse near Galette Chambon. She is in the sixth grade. She lives with her parents and has no siblings. Her father is a cabinet maker and her mother doesn’t have a job. She often helps her husband with his cabinet making when he has orders. The problem is, with the chaos going on in the country, not many people are ordering cabinets to be made. This has made it difficult for the family to survive. They were able to pay for Nedjika’s registration to school, but they have not been able to continue paying tuition. It is very important to both Nedjika and her parents that she is able to continue going to school because she is very smart. She has managed to make it to the sixth grade and she is so excited about starting 7th grade at the high school. Nedjika enjoys studying, going to church, and working around the house. Her favorite subject is mathematics and when she grows up, she wants to study medicine.
