Fens is a bright fifteen year old from the village of Galette Chambon who lives with his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. His parents are farmers who sell their produce in the local market. They have struggled to make ends meet in the last two years because of the dangers in the community and the struggling economy. They used to be able to send their kids to school and pay tuition, but after the gang attacked the village, their business pretty much came to a halt because they were robbed and lost everything. They were able to convince the principal of the school to let him continue this year, but only with the condition that he find a sponsor. If he doesn’t find a sponsor in the next six months, he will have to quit school. Fens enjoys studying, playing soccer and basketball, and going to church. His favorite subject in school is mathematics, and when he grows up he wants to become an engineer.
