Taïna is a happy little thirteen year old who comes from the village of Galette Chambon. She lives with her parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Her parents try to run a business selling household items and non-perishable food goods, but the economy has not been good and it has been difficult to get supplies for their business because of the dangers on the road. They have had a very hard time trying to make money to support their family. They feel like it would be so much easier on them if they knew their children were in school and eating every day. Taïna likes to help her parents work, play with friends, and study lessons. Her favorite subject is history, and when she grows up she wants to learn how to be a secretary.
