Bethie is an eight year old little girl who lives in the tiny village of Moziyis near Galette Chambon. She lives with her mother, one sister, and three brothers. Her mother is a fruit vendor at the local market. She sells mangos and avocados from a basket on the side of the road. She makes a little money, but it is not enough to adequately support her family. She wants her children to get a good education so that they can rise above the poverty they have known their entire lives. Bethie enjoys going to church, singing, and playing with her friends. She enjoys learning to read and write as well. She looks forward to being able to go to school like the other children in her village. When she grows up, she wants to work in a pharmacy.
