Yayelle is a petite eleven year old from the village of Place Charles in Galette Chambon. She lives with her mother, father, two brothers, and one sister. Her father is a motorcycle chauffeur and her mother does not work outside of the home. Over the past two years, the cost of living has risen significantly and the cost of gas has skyrocketed. This rise in cost has cut into her father’s income as a moto driver. This has put a huge strain on their family budget. Two of Yayelle’s siblings are already sponsored, and it would help tremendously if she were to get a sponsor too. They were able to pay the deposit on her tuition in November, but they cannot afford to pay the rest of the year. Yayelle loves school and desperately wants to be able to continue. Her favorite things to do are study, work around the house, and sing at church. Her favorite subjects are French and mathematics. When she grows up, she wants to learn to be a tailor and make uniforms for school children.

Often times, children do not know their age or birthday, and sometimes they measure smaller or larger because of illness. We do the best we can to give accurate updates, but there are cultural constraints that we cannot avoid. Also, these measurements were made in March of 2022. The child may or may not have promoted to the next grade by the 2022-2023 school year. Final exams had not been taken when the update was made. You can assume that the child will move on to the next grade up, but it is not guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
