Steika is a bright eleven year old from the village of Place Charles near Galette Chambon. She lives with her parents and brother and sister. Her father works as a teacher in a local school and he works as a mason on the side. He makes a decent amount of money working these two jobs, however, it is still difficult to make ends meet because he also supports his elderly parents. It would be a lot easier to support their medical needs if Steika had a sponsor. She has also begged him to let her look for a sponsor so that she can be like so many of the other kids in the school who have a sponsor. They get gifts from their sponsor and they talk all the time about the person in the US that prays for them. She wishes she could have that too. Steika enjoys helping her mother clean the house and studying. When she grows up, she wants to learn to be a cook. Her favorite subject in school is French.
