Mardoche (pronounced “Mah-doe-shay”) is a nine year old from the village of Bonette near Galette Chambon. He lives with his mother, sister, and brother. His mother does not have a source of income, but she is determined that Mardoche will get an education so that he does not struggle as an adult like she has. Every day, Mardoche and his mother set out walking to school so that he can go to school. She selected Maranatha school because there is a sponsorship program and she is hoping he will one day get a sponsor to help her send him to school. It takes them two hours to walk to school from their village. They don’t mind, though, because they know Mardoche gets a good education at Maranatha. Mardoche loves to play soccer, study hi s lessons, go to church with his family, eat, sleep, and bathe. When he grows up, he wants to become a police officer.
