Herline is a sixth grader at BGM Maranatha School in Galette Chambon. She recently lost her sponsor and must get another one if she is to continue school. She lives with her father and two older brothers. Her father works as a farmer on a local farm and her brothers work in a local iron market. Her father is not in good health, so there are many days he cannot work. That makes the family completely dependent on what her brothers can make at the iron market. They barely make enough money to feed the family, so paying for Herline’s school is difficult. Herline is eager to have a sponsor not just because it is so hard to afford to pay for her education, but also so that she can know what it is like to have a family in the US that prays for her and encourages her. it is not easy being a young girl in a house full of men. She does all the cooking and cleaning for her grandfather and brothers. She doesn’t mind that at all, but it would just make her feel better about her life if she knew God had placed a sponsor in her life to be an encouragement. Her favorite subject is math, and when she grows up, she wants to be a math teacher.
