Daphline is a friendly and lovable nineteen year old girl from the village of Galette Chambon. She lives with her five sisters and one brother. Both of their parents are dead leaving the family of siblings to care for themselves. They live together in the home they shared with their parents, but the older brother works in the local gardens as a share cropper to try to feed the family while the rest of the children take care of the home. Sometimes the older girls are able to find odd jobs like helping vendors or cleaning houses or washing clothes for people. This is how they work to put food in their bellies. It is not easy to do this and go to school too, but whenever they do make a little money, they set aside some to make installments on tuition. They are thankful that if they can just pay tuition, they can also get a good hot meal every day. When Daphline is not in school, her favorite thing to do is study. She LOVES to learn! She loves studying French especially because it makes her feel smart when she speaks French. When Daphline grows up, she wants to become a nurse.
