Nadia is a lively eighteen year old that lives in the village of Gros Balanse near Galette Chambon with her mother, father, two sisters, and seven brothers. She was very late starting to school because her parents can’t afford to send all of the children to school at the same time and her parents decided to let her older siblings go to school before her. She did get to go for a few years, but then had to sit out again for more siblings to go. This is a common practice in the village among large families like hers. While her siblings were in school, she kept studying and taught herself how to read and write using their books. Last year it was finally her turn to go again and she worked hard to pass the sixth grade so that she can move on to the high school next year. She was so excited to find out that she PASSED!!! She is so afraid now that she won’t be able to go if she doesn’t find a sponsor. She is begging you…. “please, please pick me!!” She wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She loves to work, study lessons, sing, and pray. Her favorite subject in school is mathematics.
