Maylantha is a bright little eight year old from the village of Galette Chambon. She lives with her parents, two sisters, and three brothers . Her father is a farmer in the village and her mother stays home with the children. Maylantha’s favorite things to do are go to the garden and help her father, study, and go to church. Her favorite subject in school is mathematics. When she grows up she wants to be a teacher at a school in the village and teach math. She is lucky enough to be able to go to school this year because her father was able to sell a goat to pay for her tuition. However, he could not afford to buy her a uniform. She wants to be sponsored so that her parents don’t have to worry about how they are going to pay for her school and she would love to have a new uniform like the sponsored kids have. When asked what she loves about her country, she said that she loves how the Americans and Haitians work together in her village to do good things for the people.
