Sonel is a kind, energetic fifteen year old from the village of Gwo Balanse near Galette Chambon. He has three sisters and eight brothers. Four of his siblings are school age, and he is the only one not sponsored. His favorite subject in school is reading. He said his favorite thing to hear from his teacher is that he is passing. He is not sure what he wants to be when he grows up but he does know that whatever it is, he wants to make money to support a family one day. He and his siblings recently lost their mother suddenly to an unknown illness. The family is very sad about her death. Sonel is very thankful for the opportunity to get a sponsor because it is very hard for his father to be able to afford to pay for his school. He wants to thank the sponsors who help children in his village go to school. He thinks this program will be very good for his community.
