Daphkar is a determined thirteen year old girl from the village of Dalgros near Galette Chambon. She comes from a very large family with five brothers, and four sisters. Their father died while working in the garden two years ago and they have no other source of income besides what their mother can grow in their family garden and sell at the open market. They grow most of the food they eat and they use what little money they make on produce to buy things they can’t grow like rice and oil. The whole family participates in working the garden. When asked what she likes to do in her spare time, Daphkar said she likes to work. There’s no such thing as spare time. She believes that hard work is what will help her achieve anything she wants to achieve in life. For now, her list of career goals include teacher, doctor, politician, world traveler, driving cars, and driving airplanes. She is really not sure what she wants to be when she grows up; she just knows that whatever it is, she will need to get a good education. This is why she desperately wants to go to school.
