Sherlande is thirteen years old and lives in Galette Chambon with her father and five sisters and five brothers. Her father is a farmer and her mother died last year of cancer. She is very thankful for her grandmother and aunt who help take care of her younger siblings so that Sherlande can go to school, however, providing for a family of eleven as a farmer is hard, and her father just can’t afford to pay for all of the children to go to school. Sherlande is very grateful for the opportunity to be in the sponsorship program because she wants to become a pediatric nurse one day, and she knows she must finish high school before she can seek her goals of becoming a nurse. Sherlande’s favorite subject in school is history and her favorite thing to do when she’s not in school is play with her younger brothers and sisters. Her favorite thing about her country of Haiti is the beautiful flowers.

**Please note that each year, we depend on village volunteers whose understanding of the measuring process may create variations in accuracy. Often times, children do not know their age or birthday, and sometimes they measure smaller or larger because of illness. We do the best we can to give accurate updates, but there are cultural constraints that we cannot avoid. Also, these measurements were made in March of 2022. The child may or may not have promoted to the next grade by the 2022-2023 school year. Final exams had not been taken when the update was made. You can assume that the child will move on to the next grade up, but it is not guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
