Abdias is a cheerful six-year-old boy who lives in the village of Galette Chambon with his parents and his sister. He recently completed the K-3 program at BGM Preschool and is excited to begin first grade in the fall of 2026. Abdias loves learning and looks forward to all the new opportunities that school will bring.
His mother is a vendor who creates beautiful handmade items such as ropes and baskets, while his father crafts chairs from wood and reeds gathered throughout the village. Because these handmade items are considered luxury goods, they often have to sell them for far less than the family needs to support themselves. Abdias’s mother has also struggled with poor health, making it even more difficult for the family to earn a steady income. To help provide for his family, his father has taken on additional work as a sharecropper, but they still face many financial challenges. Having both Abdias and his sister in school would allow his parents to devote more time to their work while knowing their children are receiving a quality education.
Abdias is a very social little boy who loves walking to and from school each day with a group of friends from his neighborhood. At school, one of his favorite times of the day is recess, when he enjoys playing with his friends on the playground. His favorite subject is mathematics. During K-3, he learned to count and began learning basic addition, and he is eager to discover more mathematical concepts when he starts first grade. Abdias dreams of becoming a lawyer someday so that he can help others and build a brighter future. A sponsorship would give him the opportunity to continue his education and pursue the dreams that are already taking root in his young heart.
