Mikendy is a hardworking 15-year-old growing up in a large family of seven. His parents are dedicated vendors in the local market, where they work every day to provide for their five children. However, the last four years have brought significant hardships to vendors in Galette Chambon. The local markets have become increasingly dangerous due to gang activity in the region, which often forces the markets to shut down without notice. This instability has made it incredibly difficult for Mikendy’s parents to earn a steady income. With food inflation rising as high as 35.1% as of late 2025, the family’s modest earnings are stretched thin, often leaving no room for the tuition fees required to keep all five children in school.

Despite these obstacles, Mikendy remains focused on his future. He is particularly passionate about Social Science, which is his favorite subject in school. He is a bright student who dreams of one day becoming an Engineer, a role that would allow him to help rebuild and strengthen the infrastructure of his community.

When he isn’t studying, you can almost always find Mikendy on the village soccer field. He loves playing soccer with his friends after school, a sport that provides a vital sense of normalcy and joy amidst the current challenges facing his village.
At 15, Mikendy is at a critical stage of his education. In rural Haiti, the cost of sending a child to school can consume a large portion of a family’s annual income. Without a sponsor, the financial strain of the current security crisis may force him to put his dreams of engineering on hold. By sponsoring Mikendy, you are protecting the future of an aspiring engineer and providing a beacon of hope for a family working hard to survive in difficult times.
