BENJAMIN BRIDENS is a bright and curious four-year-old boy who lives in the village of Galette-Chambon with his parents and older sister. Born in July 2021, Benjamin is currently in the K-1 class at BGM Preschool, where he loves learning and especially enjoys writing little poems and rhymes to help him remember what he’s studying. His favorite subject is coloring, and he already dreams of becoming a teacher one day.
Benjamin’s parents work as local vendors, selling household items in their village and at nearby markets. However, over the past couple of years, their ability to earn a stable income has been severely impacted. Due to ongoing civil unrest in the country, many markets are often closed, and traveling the dangerous roads to restock their inventory is a constant risk. As a result, their income has dramatically decreased, and they can no longer afford Benjamin’s school fees.
Despite these hardships, Benjamin’s parents are deeply committed to their children’s education. They want Benjamin to continue in school so he can build a strong future and not fall behind. School also provides Benjamin with a daily meal and a Christian education—both of which are incredibly important to his family.
At home, Benjamin enjoys going to church with his family, working in their small garden, and learning the traditional method of making charcoal alongside his father. This involves a unique process of burning tree branches under piles of dirt until they smolder into charcoal—a practice passed down through generations in his village.
Benjamin’s sister is already sponsored, and now his family is praying for someone to come alongside Benjamin as well—to help give him the opportunity to stay in school, grow, and chase his dreams.
