Djenica is a precious little 8 year old from the village of Bwa Blan near Galette Chambon. She lives with her parents and three sisters. Her parents are farmers in the village. Neither of her parents went to school. They desperately want their children to go to school to make a better lives for themselves. They used to be able to make a pretty good living farming and selling their produce at market, however, ever since the country began to fall apart, they have struggled to make ends meet. They were able to get Djenica started in school, but they have not been able to continue paying. If Djenica is able to continue school, she must have a sponsor. Djenica enjoys doing homework, playing with friends, studying, and going to church. Her favorite subject in school is mathematics. When she grows up, she wants to become a doctor.
