Marie-Falande is a lively, young fourteen year old from the village of Plachal near Galette Chambon. She lives with her mother, four sisters, and five brothers. Their father died several years ago and their mother struggles to provide for her family. She does try to sell as much as she can in the market, but it is rarely enough to feed the family much less pay for school for all of them. Marie-Falande is a hard worker and she enjoys helping her mother take care of the house and her younger siblings. It makes her sad to see her mother work so hard and still not be able to provide for her family. Marie is excited that she has been promoted from the elementary school to the BGM Secondary school because she knows that she is that much closer to getting her diploma and going to nursing school. She hopes that she can become a nurse and help other people who are sick while also helping her mother with a family income. When she is not in school, Marie likes to learn things. She has learned how to cook, how to use computers, how to sew, and how to garden. She also enjoys going to church with her family and studying lessons. She also likes to play soccer! Marie wants to say thank you to BGM for giving her an opportunity to find a sponsor so that she can continue school without worrying about how they will pay for it. She prays every day that God will lead someone to choose her.
