Esther Serena is a bright six-year-old who hopes to enter the K-3 program at BGM Preschool. She lives with her parents, two sisters, and two brothers in the small riverside village of Boje. Her parents work hard to provide for their family by making homemade plantain chips, which they package and sell throughout their village. However, the rising cost of plantains and cooking oil has made it increasingly difficult for them to earn enough income to support their family. They have heard about the Hope Center School in Galette Chambon and are praying that Esther Serena will receive a sponsorship so she can attend a school where she will receive a quality education. Without assistance, they cannot afford the tuition, and they know the local school in Boje cannot offer the same opportunities.
Esther Serena is an energetic little girl who loves to play with her brothers, sisters, and friends in the village. She is excited about starting kindergarten, where she will learn to write her letters, spell her name, and begin reading and writing. She is eager to learn and has already shown that she is a very bright child. One day, Esther Serena hopes to become a kindergarten teacher so she can help young children discover the joy of learning, just as she hopes to do herself.
