Bianka is a cheerful five-year-old student in the K-3 program at BGM Primary School. She lives in Galette Chambon with her parents, one brother, and one sister. Her parents work hard to provide for their family by making homemade Haitian patés and selling them throughout the village. Although the patés are popular and enjoyed as a breakfast or lunchtime meal, the income they earn is very limited and the cost of buying the supplies has become very high. Last year they struggled to keep up with Bianka’s tuition payments and were unable to make the final payment. They have been told that unless the remaining balance is paid when they register for the new school year, Bianka will not be able to return to school. A sponsor would remove that burden and give her the opportunity to continue her education.
At home, Bianka enjoys helping her mother with daily chores such as cleaning, washing clothes, cooking, and washing dishes. She has learned to be such a good helper by watching and working alongside her older sister. Her favorite class is Pre-Ekriti, where she is learning to write her letters, spell simple words, and write her own name. Bianka dreams of becoming a nurse one day after being cared for by a kind nurse at the Hope Center Clinic. She hopes to show that same compassion by caring for children in her own community someday.
