Blando is a cheerful three-year-old who hopes to begin the K-1 preschool program at BGM this fall. He lives in the village of Bonet with his parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Several of his siblings are also waiting and hoping to find sponsors so they can attend school.
Blando’s parents are sharecroppers who work on a large community farm, where they receive a small portion of the harvest to feed their family or sell at the local market. With eight children to care for, providing for their family’s needs is a constant struggle. Both parents must work in the fields each day, but the garden is no place for an active three-year-old. They are praying Blando can begin school this fall so he will have a safe place to learn while they work to provide for their family.
Blando loves playing with his friends and is excited that his brother is teaching him how to kick a soccer ball. He is especially looking forward to learning pré-écriture—the first steps of writing. He can’t wait to learn his alphabet, write words, and write his own name. When asked what he wants to be when he grows up, Blando quickly says, “A doctor.” After visiting a local clinic with his parents, he was inspired by the doctor who cared for patients with kindness and skill. With the opportunity to attend school, Blando can begin building the foundation for the bright future he dreams of.
