Mitchaelle is a bright seven-year-old who is entering the first grade at Maranatha School. She lives in Galette Chambon with her grandmother, two sisters, and one brother. After her parents separated when she was very young, her father left the family, and her mother eventually moved to another town in search of work. Sadly, she stopped returning when Mitchaelle was about four years old. Since then, her grandmother has lovingly raised Mitchaelle and her siblings, providing them with the care and stability they need.
Mitchaelle’s grandmother earns a small income by making crispy plantain chips, packaging them in bags, and selling them in the town square. The cost of buying plantains, cooking oil, and packaging has risen sharply because these supplies must be purchased in a neighboring town. Illegal road taxes along the route further reduce her already limited earnings, making it increasingly difficult to provide for her grandchildren and keep them in school.
When she is not in school, Mitchaelle loves to study. She often borrows her older brother’s books so she can learn ahead of her grade level, and her eagerness to learn is evident to everyone around her. She is especially excited to begin primary school after completing kindergarten. Mitchaelle dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher one day because she loves the joyful way her teachers use songs, games, colors, numbers, and hands-on activities to help young children learn. A sponsorship would give Mitchaelle the opportunity to continue pursuing her education and work toward making that dream a reality.
