Keicha is a bright 6-year-old girl who will be entering K-3 at Maranatha School this fall. She lives in Galette Chambon with her parents, four sisters, and two brothers. Her parents work hard to provide for their family by selling home-cooked meals in the local market. Each day, her mother prepares rice, beans, and other traditional foods, serving them in takeout containers to customers in the town square. Her father helps by delivering meals to local businesses. Unfortunately, the rising cost of food ingredients and takeout containers has significantly reduced the family’s income. With seven children to support, her parents worry they may not be able to afford to send Keicha to school, as families often have to rotate which children attend school when finances are limited.
Keicha is an eager learner with a love for studying. She has learned her alphabet, colors, and how to write her name by watching and learning from her older siblings, who enjoy pretending to be her teachers. Because of her hard work and determination, she tested into K-3 instead of the beginning level, putting her on track to catch up to children her own age. Her favorite subject is mathematics, and she is fascinated by numbers and arithmetic. When she grows up, Keicha hopes to become a kindergarten teacher so she can encourage and inspire young children just as her own teachers have encouraged her.
