Dorens is an 8-year-old boy who attends Maranatha School and is in the second grade. He lives in Galette Chambon with his parents, one brother, and one sister. His parents work hard to support their family through a small bakery in the town square. Dorens’ father helps make bread at the bakery, while his mother goes from house to house throughout the village selling fresh bread to local families. In recent years, the cost of ingredients and transportation has risen dramatically, forcing the bakery owner to reduce employee salaries in order to keep the business operating. Although the pay cut has made life more difficult, Dorens’ father is grateful to still have work. Unfortunately, the family’s reduced income has made it increasingly difficult to afford school tuition, and they fear they may not be able to keep Dorens in school this coming year.
Dorens is a hardworking student who loves to learn. When he is not in school, he enjoys studying and reviewing his lessons. His favorite subject is mathematics, and he takes great pride in doing well in his studies. If he is unable to continue school, he will likely spend his days helping his mother deliver bread throughout the village. Dorens dreams of becoming a professor one day so he can continue learning and help educate others. A sponsorship would allow him to remain in school and continue pursuing the education he values so deeply.
