Mailloune  (prounounced May-loo-nee) is a bright and determined 13-year-old girl in the fifth grade at Maranatha School. She lives in the village of Galette Chambon with her parents, four sisters, and three brothers. As the oldest child in her family, Mailloune carries both responsibility and great hope for the future.

Her parents work hard in their garden, growing produce that they sell in the local market. Although their labor provides enough to feed their large family, they do not earn enough to cover the cost of schooling for all of their children. Because Mailloune is so close to advancing to high school, her parents are hoping to secure sponsorship for her so she can continue her education without interruption.

Mailloune is exceptionally intelligent and has already distinguished herself as a remarkable young leader in her community. Despite her age, she attends youth lectures in the village where participants read and discuss books about Haitian history, civic responsibilities, and social issues affecting their country. At times, Mailloune even leads these lectures herself. Older students, including those already in high school, are often amazed by her ability to understand complex topics and communicate her ideas with wisdom and confidence.

In school, Mailloune’s favorite subject is mathematics, and she consistently works hard in her studies. When she grows up, she hopes to become a kindergarten teacher because of the positive impact her own teachers have had on her life. Sponsorship would give Mailloune the opportunity to continue developing her talents and pursue a future where she can inspire and educate the next generation.
