LORDENS is an eager and resilient 8-year-old boy currently attending first grade at Maranatha School. He lives with his parents, his brother, and his younger sister. His family works hard to make ends meet—his parents are vendors in the local market, growing crops in a small garden near their home and selling the produce to buy basic necessities like beans, rice, and oil.
For many years, Lordens’ parents were unable to afford school for their children. Through great sacrifice, they were recently able to save enough to send Lordens to school for one year. Despite starting later than most children, Lordens showed remarkable determination. Before ever entering a classroom, he taught himself how to write his name, recognize basic words, and read. After taking a placement test last fall, he was able to skip kindergarten and begin directly in first grade, putting him only two years behind.
Lordens is a bright and motivated student who especially enjoys mathematics. Outside of school, he loves playing with his friends and being part of his community. He dreams of becoming a teacher one day so he can give back by educating children in his village, just as his teachers have inspired him.
However, Lordens’ family does not have the financial means to continue paying for his education beyond this year. They also hope to one day send his brother to school when possible. Sponsorship would provide Lordens with the opportunity to continue his education without interruption, helping him stay on track toward achieving his dream and creating a better future for himself and his family.
