DALENS is a bright and hardworking 15-year-old who lives in the Galette-Chambon community with his parents, two sisters, and three brothers. He is currently in the tenth grade at BGM High School, where he excels academically and enjoys learning. Dalens has progressed steadily through school without interruption—an uncommon and remarkable achievement given the challenges many students in his community face.
In recent years, Dalens’ family has experienced increasing financial hardship. His parents work as vendors in the local market, but ongoing gang activity has made travel both dangerous and expensive. Checkpoints along the roads require vendors to pay additional fees, reducing their already limited income. As prices rise, fewer customers are able to purchase goods, further impacting the family’s ability to provide for their children and cover school expenses.
Despite these challenges, Dalens remains dedicated to his education. His favorite subject is chemistry, and he takes pride in his academic success. Outside of school, he uses skills learned from his father and uncle to work on vehicles, helping to contribute to his family’s needs. However, as his studies become more demanding, it has become harder to balance school and work.
Dalens dreams of becoming a mechanic, recognizing the important role skilled repair workers play in supporting his community’s livelihood. Sponsorship would allow him to focus on his education while continuing to develop his skills, helping him build a stable and hopeful future for himself and his family.
