GUEVANA is a bright and curious five-year-old who has been waiting patiently to start her journey in education. Her parents first tried to enroll her in school when she was three, but the financial strain of supporting five children made it impossible to afford the extra tuition. Now that she is five, her family is making a second, determined effort to get her into the classroom, praying that a sponsorship will provide the stability she needs to stay there.

Guevana’s parents are farmers who work long, grueling hours on a large farm to provide for their seven-person household. For most of her five years, Guevana has been right by their side, working in the garden and learning the value of hard work. While her parents are dedicated to their trade, they know that education is the only way for their children to find a different path. In 2025, with Haiti facing severe food insecurity and economic inflation, having all the children in school is not just an academic goal—it is a necessity that allows the parents to work the hours required to keep the family fed and supported.
Even before stepping into a classroom, Guevana has developed a love for mathematics. Her favorite activity is sitting on the ground, carefully counting the ears of corn as her parents lay them out to dry in the sun. She is eager to move beyond counting corn to learning formal math, and she is particularly excited about the milestone of learning to write her own name. She looks forward to trading her long days of garden work for the joy of playing with friends and solving problems in her workbooks.
While she is still young and exploring her interests, Guevana thinks it would be “mighty cool” to one day become a doctor. She has seen firsthand how hard her community works and the physical toll it takes, and she dreams of being able to provide care for them. She knows that the path to a medical degree is long, and it begins with this first, crucial step into primary school.
In 2025, the cost of education in rural Haiti remains one of the greatest barriers to breaking the cycle of poverty. Your sponsorship provides:  tuition, books, a uniform, and a hot meal every day.  A sponsorship also allows her parents to focus on their agricultural work, knowing Guevana is safe and learning. By sponsoring Guevana, you are giving a little girl the chance to put down the corn and pick up a pencil, turning her “mighty cool” dream of becoming a doctor into a reachable reality.
