Bethsaleele is a bright and determined 15-year-old with a deep love for education. While she enjoys all her studies, her favorite subject is Spanish. Despite her enthusiasm, her journey to get an education has not been easy. A few years ago, Bethsaleele had to make a heartbreaking sacrifice: she dropped out of school so that her parents could afford to send one of her siblings instead. This is a painful but common reality in Haiti; when families cannot afford tuition for all their children, they rotate which ones attend, leaving others to wait their turn. Even while out of school, Bethsaleele has not stopped learning. She spends her days studying books borrowed from friends and siblings, working tirelessly to keep up with her peers. Her goal is to be fully prepared to pass an entrance exam when she finally returns, hoping to bypass lower grades and advance as quickly as possible. Bethsaleele’s ultimate dream is to become a nurse. She wants to use her education to serve her community and provide the medical care that is so desperately needed in rural areas like Gallette Chambon. With your help, Bethsaleele can move from studying on the sidelines to leading in a classroom, putting her on the path to becoming the nurse she dreams to be.
