Tabyta is a loving sixteen year old from the village of Bonet near Galette Chambon. She lives with her mother, three sisters, and five brothers. Her mother is a vendor that goes throughout the village selling clothes washing soap that she has put in little baggies. She has always done pretty well selling her soap, but over the last year it has not been safe to walk about the village with money in one’s pocket. She was robbed twice last year as she moved about the village trying to sell. Now she stays home and asks people to come to her house to buy it. This has hurt her business very much and it is made it impossible for her to pay Tabyta’s tuition. Tabyta is already three years behind in school because when her family had to evacuate their home in Bonet two years ago, she could not afford to go to school. It took them a long time to just find a safe place to live, and then two weeks after finding a place to live in Galette Chambon, the gang moved into that village too! Tabyta had to stay at home and help her mother with the children instead of going to school. This made Tabyta very sad, but she knew it was necessary. She hopes to be able to find a sponsor and return to school in September. Maybe she can test up to try to make up time she missed! She must find a sponsor first though. Tabyta enjoys working around the house, studying, sleeping, and praying. Her favorite subject in school is Physical Science, and when she grows up, she would like to become a doctor.
