Birthday: APRIL 9, 2010 Sponsorship #: 2023-00-064HC

HUGO is a determined 13 year old from the area called “Gwo-vo” near Galette Chambon. He lives with his mother, one sister, and three brothers. His mother tries hard to sell things at market to support her family, but it is extremely difficult to make enough money to support four children. In spite of extreme difficulty, Hugo’s mother has found a way each year to send Hugo to school, and he finally made it through the 6th grade. If he passes this year, he will move on to the high school next year, and that is something he has dreamed of for a long time! Getting a sponsor would make it possible for him to continue on. If he doesn’t get a sponsor, he might have to sit out so that one of siblings can go to school instead. You see, in Haiti, there are many, many people who do not continue on after the 6th grade. People figure once a child makes it out of 6th grade and can read and write, it’s time to find a way to work to make a living to help the family. For most in Galette Chambon, that means working a garden somewhere in the village. That’s not what Hugo wants to do though! Hugo has dreams of learning to sew and becoming a tailor! He knows that most people in his village can’t afford to buy new clothes, so they very often have them made, and he wants to be the one that makes them! Once we found this out, we asked our staff to teach Hugo how to measure kids for their uniforms so he can help the tailors this year. We hope to one day see Hugo behind a sewing machine making the uniforms himself and he will be called “Boss Hugo”!!
