Leomano is a nine year old from the village of Nan Kadas which is a part of the village of Galette Chambon. He lives with his parents, three brothers, and one sister. His parents are share croppers in the village and although they are thankful to have some form of employment, they do not make enough to support a family and it is very unreliable because of drought and storms that flood the fields. This year, they were able to save up enough money for Leomano to start school, but they could not afford a uniform for him or his books. He borrows books from friends who have been in school and he studies hard to keep up. His favorite subject is French and he hopes to become a professor one day so he can teach children in his village to read. He is very proud that he knows how to read because neither of his parents went to school to learn how. He doesn’t think anyone should live life without knowing how to read, so he wants to spend his life teaching people just that!
